All the Best New iPhone Functions in iOS 16

Apple has been releasing beta versions of iOS 16 since announcing it at WWDC in June. The percentage number within the battery symbol that reveals your iPhone’s precise battery charge has returned in Apple’s sixth and latest public beta for iOS 16.

Apple revealed the release date of iOS 16 on Wednesday, September 12th, at an iPhone 14 launch event. Improvements to messaging, customization and security have been spotted in the latest iOS beta. The iPhone’s lock screen, Messages app, and Wallet are all getting major updates in iOS 16, but there are also some hidden features that are worth exploring.

Reversing a sent message and making changes to it

During his keynote address at WWDC, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi announced three highly requested updates to the Messages app, one of which is the ability to delete a message if it contains an embarrassing typo.

To begin, in iOS 16, you’ll have the option to retract previously sent texts. That way, you may go back and fix any typos you made in a message if you remember them later. The status under the message is updated with a little “modified.”

The next, and possibly most exciting, the new function is the ability to instantly retract a previously sent message. If you send a message without finishing it, you can delete it and start over with the Undo Send feature so that your loved ones don’t have to read your jumbled thoughts.

As the last step, you can designate messages and threads as unread. When you don’t have time to reply to a message right now, but you know you’ll want to later, this could be a useful tool.

A brand-new, modifiable security screen

If your iPhone is equipped with Face ID, the lock screen is one of the first things you see when you turn it on. The iPhone’s lock screen has seen its most significant improvement to date with iOS 16. Alter your password-protected screen by pressing and holding. You can swipe to try out numerous different styles. You may customize the look of your lock screen by choosing from a variety of themes, each of which applies a unique color filter to the backdrop photo and alters the typeface accordingly. This feels a bit like Apple’s version on Google’s Material You, which arrived with Android 12.

Lock screen widgets like temperature, activity rings, and a calendar, as well as time and date fonts, are modifiable. Widgets function in a manner analogous to that of Apple Watch complications on the home screen.

Notifications and live activities

If your lock screen photo is obscured by a notification, iOS 16 will automatically shift it to the bottom of your screen. Instead of a single long list, they’ll scroll by in a vertical carousel as they come in. This will improve the iPhone’s aesthetics and make it easier to use with one hand.

Another issue with notifications is something iOS 16 hopes to address. The score of a basketball game, for example, can trigger a barrage of notifications from the same app. Live Activities, a new developer tool, helps you keep tabs on what’s going on in the world without constantly being disrupted by notifications by displaying timely updates on your lock screen.
