How To Change Your Instagram Username

You may only change your username so many times on some social media sites, while others won’t let you alter it at all. If you don’t like your Instagram handle, you can change it whenever you want (within reason).
One’s username is distinct from their public identity. Your profile’s display name appears under your avatar. The password can be shared with others and might include emojis and other symbols. As for the wording, that can be altered twice in a span of 14 days.
On the other hand, your username is what shows up in the address bar of your profile and at the end of your profile’s URL. It should be something no one other has. Also, it can’t be more than 30 characters long and can only use letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. If no one else has already claimed your new username within 14 days, you can go back to your old one.
Changing your handle takes less than a minute, so whether you’ve recently changed your real name, want to switch to a more professional handle, or are simply tired of your present nickname, you can make the switch with ease. Here’s the deal:
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR USERNAME IN THE INSTAGRAM APP
First, open the Instagram app on your iOS or Android device and sign in. If you are attempting to make a modification to an existing account and have access to several accounts, please ensure that you are logged into the correct account.
- The profile page can be accessed by clicking on your avatar in the lower right corner.
- To make changes to your bio, select the Edit Profile option.
- Select the field labeled “Username” and enter your new user name.
- If everything looks good, click the blue checkmark in the corner.
HOW TO CHANGE YOUR USERNAME ON A COMPUTER
If you’d rather use the desktop app, Instagram will let you alter your username there.
- Go to instagram’s official website
- You’ll be asked to continue with your account if you’re already logged in. Input your login details here if you haven’t already done so.
- To edit your profile, go to the right side of the homepage and pick your user name.
- To modify your profile, select it next to your username and click “Edit profile.”
If you change your handle and then realize you don’t like it, or if you simply change your mind, you have 14 days to revert to your original handle. After that period, it’s possible you can still revert, but your old handle might already be in use by someone else.
WHAT IF YOUR PREFERED USERNAME IS TAKEN?
First-come, first-served means that no two people can have the same username. After you confirm your handle on mobile or click Submit on the computer, Instagram will let you know if it is available.
If your desired user name is already taken, you can make it stand out by including a number or an underscore to it.
Also, keep coming back for updates. That preferred username may become available at some point. Instagram occasionally deletes bogus accounts, and the existing owner can always alter or remove their profile.
