Facebook Messenger is a useful app, but it may potentially invade your privacy. There will be instances when you don’t feel like responding right away to a message, but you also don’t want to come across as impolite by ignoring it.

Access Messenger chats in secret on your mobile device
A circle with a checkmark inside it appears next to the text box when a message has been sent successfully on Facebook Messenger. If the recipient opens it, the message disappears and the person’s image appears in its place. And that’s how you know it’s been read.
Even while Facebook Messenger doesn’t give you the option to disable read receipts, there are ways to get around this.
Turning off your internet connection is the most reliable method of avoiding read receipts. This is how it goes down.
Enable flight mode
You should be able to find Airplane mode or Flight mode in the Settings app on your phone. However, you should be able to find it among the quick access icons that display when you pull it down from the top of the screen.
Open Messenger
Instead of opening the Facebook Messenger app as soon as you realize you have a new message, immediately switch to Flight Mode. The next step is to launch the application and read the new message; the sender will be unaware of this.
Read the message
On your own phone, there is no visible way to tell whether or not this was successful; however, the sender will continue to see merely a circle with a checkmark inside it to the right of the text bubble. If the center of the circle is white, it indicates that the message has been successfully transmitted, and if it is filled with gray, it indicates that the message has been successfully delivered.
Turn off flight mode
You shouldn’t disable Flight Mode or reopen Facebook Messenger until you’ve determined that you have the ability to interact with the person who sent you the message. This circle will be replaced with your profile image as soon as you confirm that you’ve seen the message, which will let the sender know that you’ve done so.
